Age verification on cam platforms operates on two entirely separate tracks. One applies to performers: a real identity-documentation process involving government-issued photo ID, a matching selfie or live video, and in most cases a third-party verification service that handles the actual check. The other applies to viewers accessing the site: none of the six platform policies reviewed describes what a visitor currently encounters when accessing content, making this the less documented of the two tracks.
Both tracks exist for overlapping legal reasons, but they involve different data, different retention timelines, and different risk surfaces. The rest of this article covers each in turn, starting with the performer side, where more is actually documented.
The performer track: what you submit
Every platform reviewed requires some form of government-issued photo identification before allowing anyone to go live. The combination of documents varies slightly, but the core requirement is consistent across all six.
Chaturbate requires government ID plus live video and/or a burst of still images (privacy policy, accessed 2026-08-01). Stripchat requires an ID copy plus a selfie holding the ID, for both models and members who upload content (terms, accessed 2026-08-01). LiveJasmin requires a signed agreement, scanned photo ID, and a selfie holding that ID, for performers and studio partners (terms, accessed 2026-08-01). CAM4 requires a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID in a clear, high-quality color image plus a live face snapshot (training/getting-approved page, accessed 2026-08-01). MyFreeCams requires a government ID showing face, name, and date of birth, plus signed verification documents (wiki/safety page, accessed 2026-08-01). BongaCams requires a signed agreement, scanned photo ID, and a selfie holding the ID (terms, accessed 2026-08-01).
Beyond the documents themselves: Chaturbate explicitly states that it collects a 3D face geometry scan and a selfie burst during broadcaster registration, and that biometric data may also be collected during live broadcasts (privacy policy). CAM4 lists biometrics as a category of personal information it collects under its CCPA disclosures (privacy policy).
Who handles the documents
None of the platforms reviewed appears to run identity verification entirely in-house. They use third-party services that specialize in this, though how many of those providers they name publicly varies considerably.
Chaturbate names Incode Technologies as its current provider for identity verification and fraud prevention, with Jumio mentioned as a historical provider (privacy policy). It’s the only platform in this review that names its current provider and describes the biometric methods involved in detail.
BongaCams names Yoti and VerifyMy as its verification providers, noting it may use a replacement provider (privacy policy, accessed 2026-08-01).
LiveJasmin does not name an age verification provider in the prose of its privacy policy or terms. A CamsNerd passive inspection of public page configuration found routes referencing Yoti, specifically the labels age_verification_yoti, yoti-complete-session, and yoti-cancel-session (CAMSNERD_OBSERVED, livejasmin.com, accessed 2026-08-01). This is a technical observation from publicly accessible page config, not a statement from LiveJasmin’s policies, and the configuration may change over time or reflect only part of its provider setup.
CAM4 public page configuration exposed references to AGE_VERIF_V2 and an ageVerification apiKey (CAMSNERD_OBSERVED, cam4.com/legal/privacy, accessed 2026-08-01). The provider behind those endpoints is not named in any accessible policy.
Stripchat and MyFreeCams both describe third-party review processes but do not name the specific services. Stripchat states that its trusted AV providers process data solely for real-time verification and that the data is not accessible to Stripchat itself (privacy policy). MyFreeCams refers to “independent third-party analysis” of submitted documents (wiki/safety page).
For the three platforms where the provider is unknown, what those third parties do with your documents after the initial check is not documented in any available source.
How long documents are retained
Retention policies are inconsistently disclosed, and for most platforms the answer is simply: not stated.
Chaturbate has the most specific policy: AV documents and biometric data are retained for 7 years from the last date the content is publicly available (privacy policy). The 7-year figure is tied to 18 U.S.C. § 2257, a US federal law requiring producers of sexually explicit content to maintain records documenting the age of performers. Chaturbate’s policy states explicitly that these compliance records cannot be deleted in response to a user deletion request.
LiveJasmin states that identity verification request data is retained “typically no more than five days” (privacy policy). That figure covers the AV request data specifically; performer and studio records more broadly fall under the ModelCenter privacy policy, which sets different retention windows for different categories.
For Stripchat, CAM4, MyFreeCams, and BongaCams, no document retention period is stated in any accessible policy or help page reviewed. Status: UNKNOWN as of 2026-08-01.
Ongoing verification during broadcasts
Initial ID submission is not the end of the verification process on several platforms.
Chaturbate states that broadcasters who don’t show their face during live sessions are subject to periodic selfie interruptions to confirm age of majority (privacy policy). MyFreeCams describes ongoing snapshot comparisons against the submitted photo ID during broadcasts (wiki/safety page). Stripchat uses a computer vision solution for live broadcast content moderation, per its model rules page; this functions as continuous content review during broadcasts, though the documentation describes it more in terms of content moderation than identity re-verification specifically. CAM4 states that broadcast video stream snapshots are retained for age verification and legal compliance (privacy policy).
Platform comparison
| Platform | Documents required | Named AV provider | Binary-only result to affiliates? | Document retention | Ongoing broadcast checks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chaturbate | Govt ID + live video/selfie burst | Incode (Jumio historical) | Not stated | 7 years from last content availability (2257) | Yes, periodic selfie checks |
| Stripchat | ID + selfie holding ID | Not named | Yes, binary age confirmation | Not stated (AV provider retains) | Yes, CV content moderation |
| LiveJasmin | Signed agreement + photo ID + selfie holding ID | Not in prose; Yoti observed in config* | Yes, binary over/under 18 when possible | ~5 days for AV request data | Not stated |
| CAM4 | Valid photo ID (color, unexpired) + live face snapshot | Not named | Not stated | Not stated | Yes, broadcast snapshots retained |
| MyFreeCams | Govt ID (face, name, DOB) + signed documents | Not named (third-party analysis) | Not stated | Not stated | Yes, ongoing snapshot comparisons |
| BongaCams | Signed agreement + scanned ID + selfie holding ID | Yoti, VerifyMy | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
*CAMSNERD_OBSERVED: Yoti routes found in public page configuration, not stated in policy prose.
The viewer track: where things stand now
For people visiting cam platforms as viewers, the picture is largely undocumented. None of the six platform policies reviewed describes the specific mechanism visitors currently encounter when accessing content. What those policies do establish is that the viewer-facing process is separate from and considerably thinner than the performer track. Whether any given platform presents a checkbox, a modal, a hard age gate, or something else is not stated in the documents reviewed, and this section of the evidence pack is explicitly marked UNKNOWN.
Several points worth noting here. First, the data involved is different. A declaration-based age gate collects no identity documents, in contrast to the performer track. If and when document-based viewer verification becomes legally required in a given jurisdiction, that picture would change substantially. Second, the regulatory environment is moving. Legislation in multiple jurisdictions, including the UK Online Safety Act, US state-level laws targeting explicit content sites, and EU developments around digital identity, is pushing toward harder age gates for viewers. How individual platforms will implement requirements in each region, and on what timeline, is not something the platform policies reviewed address in detail. Third, none of the platforms reviewed make specific statements about current viewer data collection specifically tied to their age-gate mechanism, beyond standard analytics and session data that applies to all site visitors.
Deletion: can you get your ID documents removed?
This connects directly to what each platform’s deletion policy says about verification records. For a fuller picture, see our account-deletion and retention guide.
The relevant constraint on the performer side: Chaturbate is explicit that 2257 compliance records survive deletion requests. The seven-year clock runs from the last date content was publicly available, not from when the account was closed or when you submitted a deletion request.
For the other platforms, whether performers can request deletion of their ID verification data after leaving, and whether the third-party AV processors would honor such a request under applicable data protection law, is not stated in any available policy reviewed. If this matters to your situation, the relevant contact is each platform’s data protection contact or DPO, where one is listed.
