Are Private Cam Shows, Chats, Microphones or Camera Feeds Recorded?

“Private” on cam sites describes who can attend a show, not whether it is captured. The word is an access control. Most of the six major platforms reviewed here explicitly reserve the right to record, monitor, or log private sessions for moderation, compliance, or safety purposes, and the specifics vary enough to matter depending on which platform you are on and whether you are the viewer or the performer.

The short version:

• Chaturbate records private shows by default. Broadcasters can turn this off in settings.
• BongaCams retains full-private chat recordings for the subscribing member for as long as their account stays active.
• LiveJasmin explicitly states it does not record viewer camera feeds or audio in private chat. It is the only platform among those reviewed to make this commitment in writing.
• Stripchat makes show recording a model-controlled opt-in. The platform separately uses AI-assisted video monitoring for content moderation.
• CAM4 and MyFreeCams do not address platform-side private-show recording in the policy pages reviewed.

Three things “recording” can mean

Before the platform breakdown: recording in private cam sessions is not a single thing. There are at least three distinct categories, and they carry different implications for viewers and performers.

Platform-side recording is what the site’s servers capture and store. This is where policies differ most: Chaturbate records by default; BongaCams records as part of its full-private product; LiveJasmin captures brief compliance samples and deletes them within two weeks; CAM4 and MyFreeCams don’t document this.

Model-side recording is a broadcaster saving a session using dedicated software (OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software, is the common free option), screen capture tools, or built-in platform recording features. Whether this is permitted varies by platform and, in some cases, by the model’s own settings.

Viewer-side recording means a viewer running third-party screen capture tools locally. Every platform’s terms prohibit this. Several explicitly acknowledge it happens anyway. No policy prevents someone with screen-recording software running on their own device.

These are separate things. Conflating them leads to misreadings of what any given platform policy actually covers.

Platform findings

Chaturbate

Chaturbate’s terms state that private shows are recorded by default and provided to community members who purchased them. Broadcasters can disable recording in their account settings. The terms and privacy policy are silent on how long the platform retains these recordings beyond making them available to purchasers, so that retention period is undocumented.

On chat, Chaturbate is unusually direct. Both its terms and privacy policy state that all chat messages, including direct and private messages, should be considered public information. The privacy policy makes this explicit: private messaging, tip notes, streaming, and image sharing are all treated as public regardless of any password or restriction function on the conversation. All content is subject to automated and manual review.

Stripchat

Recording on Stripchat is model-controlled. Models can opt in to allow users to record their shows for personal use; commercial use is prohibited. Purchased recordings remain accessible to the buyer even if the model later deletes their account.

Separately, Stripchat’s terms authorize the platform to monitor, record, and log all activities, including chats, streams, messages, and interactions. The platform also uses what its support documentation calls a “Computer Vision solution” for content moderation: an AI-assisted system that reviews live streams in real time for policy violations and processes camera feeds during broadcaster identity verification. The terms do not document how long platform-captured content from this monitoring is retained.

LiveJasmin

LiveJasmin’s privacy policy contains a statement most platforms don’t make: the platform never records or retains a viewer’s camera feed or audio during private chat. Models are also prohibited from recording or capturing viewer camera or audio feeds during private shows. The Video/Voice Call feature, if used, is also stated as not recorded by the platform.

That said, chat messages are collected and retained. LiveJasmin keeps private chat logs for a maximum of 120 days from the last purchase.

For performers, the ModelCenter privacy policy notes that a few seconds of live-cam performance may be captured for quality and compliance purposes, with a maximum retention period of two weeks. LiveJasmin’s terms separately authorize monitoring, recording, and logging of all model online activities on the site.

BongaCams

BongaCams runs a subscriber product called full-private chat. Its terms state that recordings of full-private sessions are available to the subscribing member (referred to in the terms as an ASP) for as long as their profile remains active. If the ASP deletes their profile, the recording becomes unavailable. BongaCams classifies these recordings as its own intellectual property, licensed for the subscriber’s exclusive personal use.

The terms prohibit models from recording or capturing member camera feeds during private shows. BongaCams authorizes monitoring, recording, and logging of all online activities and states that it uses human, automated, and AI-assisted means for monitoring content, communications, and account activity. Chat logs are retained for a “limited period,” which the terms leave undefined.

The BongaCams recording setup is worth noting for both viewers and performers: a full-private session is being recorded as part of the product’s standard function. This is not a background compliance capture for a few seconds. The recording is the product, accessible to the subscriber after the session ends.

CAM4

The CAM4 policy review found no statement about whether the platform records private shows server-side. A FAQ page titled “My show was recorded and uploaded” exists on the CAM4 site, but its content was not accessible in the research session. CAM4’s Gold features include private messaging, private cam mode, stealth mode, and anonymous tipping and chat, but none of these address what the platform captures or stores from sessions.

MyFreeCams

MyFreeCams’ terms prohibit users from recording or distributing content from the site and acknowledge that unauthorized recording, storage, and redistribution happen despite this. The terms state that the platform does not guarantee the availability of recorded private shows and chat conversations. That language implies recordings may exist in some form but does not confirm what the platform captures or retains. No explicit platform-side recording policy was found in the pages reviewed.

Comparison: what platforms state

Chat messages: are they logged?

On every platform that addresses this question, the answer is yes. Chaturbate goes the furthest: all messages, including private and direct messages, are to be treated as public information. LiveJasmin retains private chat logs for up to 120 days after the last transaction. BongaCams authorizes monitoring and logging with a vaguely defined retention window. Stripchat grants broad monitoring rights over all chat and message activity.

CAM4 and MyFreeCams had no substantive chat-retention policies in the pages reviewed.

The practical point: on platforms with broad monitoring rights, a private chat is not confidential from the platform. “Private” describes who else can see it, not whether the platform itself can.

Viewer camera and microphone: is your cam2cam feed recorded?

Cam2cam refers to a viewer enabling their own camera during a private session so the model can see them. Whether the viewer’s feed is captured and stored by the platform is a question most policies don’t answer.

LiveJasmin is the exception. Its privacy policy states plainly that the platform does not record or retain viewer camera feeds or audio, and explicitly prohibits models from doing so either. That is a documented policy position. Whether it is technically verifiable from outside the platform is a different question, but the stated commitment exists in writing.

For the other five platforms reviewed, there is no documented answer to this question. The absence of a statement is not a confirmation that feeds aren’t captured — it means the reviewed policies don’t address it.

Third-party recording: outside platform control

Every platform prohibits unauthorized recording by viewers. Several also acknowledge, to varying degrees, that it happens anyway. Chaturbate’s privacy policy notes that content shared under password protection is not truly private. MyFreeCams’ terms acknowledge the possibility of “illegal recording” by viewers.

No platform policy prevents a viewer running screen capture software on their own device. This risk exists regardless of what any terms document says, and no platform claims to have solved it.

Method and limitations

This article is based on policy and terms-of-service review conducted on 2026-08-01. Pages reviewed include terms of service, privacy policies, model-center policies, and support documentation for six platforms: Chaturbate, Stripchat, LiveJasmin, CAM4, MyFreeCams, and BongaCams.

No test accounts were created. No logged-in features, private shows, or payment flows were accessed. No correspondence was initiated with any platform. All claims are drawn from publicly available text and labeled according to source type: PLATFORM_STATES for text drawn from official platform documents, and UNKNOWN for questions the reviewed policies do not address.

Cloudflare challenge pages and login-gated content limited extraction for several sources. CAM4’s show-recording FAQ page loaded but its answer content was not extracted. Stripchat’s privacy policy body was inaccessible via direct extraction in one research round. Where a source was inaccessible, that gap is noted in the relevant section.
